Groundwork Guide: EG95 Cantilever Sliding Gate
This case study outlines the groundwork requirements for installing an EG95 Cantilever Sliding Gate. Images provided are for guidance only.
A primary concrete foundation is cast on the motor side, approximately 1m wide x 2.5m long x 1m deep. Two templates with rebar bolts are set into this foundation (exact measurements will be supplied). A second concrete foundation is required on the opposite side of the entrance, measuring roughly 0.7m x 0.7m x 0.7m, which houses the third template and four bolts for the latch post. All templates must be fixed securely in place before pouring concrete. The gate leaf will sit 100mm above the templates.
It is the groundworker’s responsibility to ensure all foundations are sufficiently sized and stable. In some locations, larger foundations may be required to compensate for weak or unstable ground conditions.
A cable link across the opening is necessary to power accessories on the latch post. This can be installed using a 4-core armoured cable buried directly or via a duct with a draw cord, ensuring 1.2m of cable remains above ground. The incoming 240V 6A single-phase power supply enters beneath the motor through an opening in the template designed to position the cable correctly.
Each template includes arrows indicating the centre line of the gate leaf. These must be aligned accurately using a string line. The gate opens inward, so a 950mm clearance behind the centre line is required to allow full rotation.
When installing near a fence, hedge or wall, position the gate within 100mm of the boundary or at least 600mm away to prevent entrapment risks. Aim for a minimum of 100mm clearance above the roadway. Once all groundwork is complete, the gate is lowered onto the foundation and bolted securely into place.
